Position Overview:
This position will report to the executive directors of the Asia Department’s U.S.-Korea Business Council (USKBC) and U.S.-Japan Business Council (USJBC) on policy workstreams related to international trade, regulatory issues, and investment challenges and opportunities in those markets. This encompasses work on a wide range of services to corporate members, including policy development, advocacy and analysis, and coalition building.
Responsibilities:
Work with the Korea and Japan teams to manage the policy and program development of bothcouncils, including in-person and virtual events.
Closelymonitorand research political, policy, and regulatory developments thatimpactU.S. businesses in Korea and Japan.
Manage a portfolio of key sectors for USKBC and USJBC, including technology and health care.
Draft and contribute content for policy position papers, issue briefs, reports, newsletters, letters, meeting briefings, presentations, testimonies, speeches, websites, and social media for government officials, corporate members, policy committees, media outlets, and the public.
Provide a full range of logistical and creative support for USKBC and USJBC programming, including annual conferences/plenaries, member engagement events, business missions, and delegations by top-level officials from Korea and Japan.
Support efforts to expand USKBC and USJBC membership.
Participate as policy lead in relevant virtual and in-person events outside the U.S. Chamber with member companies, partners, industry associations, think tanks, and similar institutions.
Cultivate and sustain a diverse network of relevant government and private sector relationships in Washington, D.C., Korea, and Japan.
Qualifications:
Advanced degree and 5-8 years’working on Asian trade and investment policy matters, engaging with U.S. government offices that have oversight of international commercial issues, and focusing on Asian issues.
Deep understanding of Korean and Japanese public policy, regulatory frameworks, trade, economy, and politics.
Knowledge of the U.S. business community operating in the Korean and Japanese marketplace, particularly in the areas of technology and digital, financial services, health care, and energy.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
Entrepreneurial self-starter with the ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
Flexibility for travel overseas.
Enthusiasm for collaborating with other teams at the Chamber.
Strong professional connections with the U.S. government, congressional offices, and policy organizations.
Significant on-the-ground or comparable experience in Korea and Japan.
Professional proficiency in Korean and/or Japanese strongly preferred.
Experience working in government or the advocacy community preferred.
The salary range for this position is $85,744.00 to $95,500.00. The actual salary paid for this position will vary based on market data, an applicant’s qualifications, relevant degrees, certifications, and other factors. Our full-time employees are eligible for benefits, including health care, vision, dental, retirement, and paid leave.
