About the Opportunity:
As a Rural 1st Loan Officer, you'll be a key player in building relationships with business contacts and customers in the consumer market segment. You'll use your knowledge of the marketplace, our products, and finance to understand each customer's unique situation and recommend the best financial solutions to meet their needs. You'll guide customers through the loan process, from application to closing, and coordinate with internal teams to ensure a smooth and positive experience.
Locations: One position in Coastal California (near Monterey, Santa Cruz, or Salinas) and one position in Northern California (near Eureka, Redding, or Santa Rosa).
Schedule: Full-time, Remote.
Travel: 50-75% within your designated territory (typically driveable distance).
Compensation: $58,795 - $154,755 base salary plus potential for variable compensation. Base pay is determined by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
What You'll Do:
Sales and Relationship Management: Build and maintain a strong professional network, generating sales and increasing market share in your territory. Spend time out in the field, connecting with customers, prospects, and influencers. Understand customer goals, credit strengths, and weaknesses, providing valuable financial insights. Determine the best way to interact with each customer and coordinate with internal teams to meet their loan and servicing needs. Communicate effectively with customers and internal team members. Introduce customers to our loan process and the team members who will support them.
Deliver Sound Credit: Gather and document customer financial information and application details, ensuring compliance with lending requirements. Interpret and evaluate financial information, asking insightful questions to determine the right product or service. Recommend loan terms, conditions, and collateral positions based on risk assessment. Clearly communicate credit decisions, loan terms, and conditions to customers.
Service Portfolio: Partner with the Rural 1st Construction team on disbursement for home construction projects. Collaborate with Rural 1st teams to complete servicing actions as needed. Work with the Customer Care team to monitor the loan portfolio and identify potential risks. Use your knowledge of servicing options to negotiate effectively and communicate these options to customers, potentially partnering with the Special Accounts team for resolutions.
What You'll Bring:
Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business, or a related field preferred.
Successful experience in a trainee role or a similar field.
General competence working with routine customers with basic product needs.
Existing NMLS registration under the SAFE Act or the ability to obtain it upon hire and maintain it.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
This role involves a mix of mental and physical demands. You'll regularly sit, use your hands, and communicate orally. Standing and walking are frequent, while occasional demands include reaching, lifting, and moving up to ten pounds. Vision requirements include close and distance vision. The typical work environment has a moderate noise level. Strong mental acuity, problem-solving skills, and occasional physical tasks like standing, lifting, or computer use are required. Some roles may require physical or mental capabilities related to driving, such as a valid driver's license and the ability to drive long distances.
